BWV FedWalks weekend - Great Southwest Walk, Portland Region
17 Julia St
09 Oct 2026 15:00 – 11 Oct 2026 16:00
Participation in the annual Federation Walks event is one of the benefits of our membership of Bushwalking Victoria.   GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: 20+ different walks are available. The walks range from Grade 2: Easy 5 km to Grade 4: Hard 23 km. Some walks have canoe/boating possibilities also. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The FedWalks weekend happens in a different part of Victoria each year - this year it will be based in Portland to do sections of the Great South West Walk. Detailed maps and descriptions of all the walks on offer will be provided.  The Great South West Walk (GSWW) is a 250-kilometer, 12-to-15-day loop hiking trail beginning and ending in Portland, Victoria, offering a diverse, challenging journey through forests, along the Glenelg River, and across rugged coastlines. It's an epic showcase of the natural beauty of far west Victoria. Meander through tranquil forests of the Cobboboonee, enter the limestone gorge of the Glenelg River and the long, lonely coast of Discovery Bay. It winds through the diverse landscapes of Lower Glenelg National Park, Discovery Bay Coastal Park, Cobboboonee National Park and Cape Nelson State Park. Starting from the township of Portland in south west Victoria, the walk takes you on an unforgettable journey across rugged cliffs carved by the Southern Ocean, over remote beaches, past ancient, pristine lakes and through majestic, tall forest. Memorable features include the highest sea cliffs in Victoria, blowholes, Petrified Forest, and seal colony at Cape Bridgwater, historic Cape Nelson Lighthouse, Princess Margaret Rose Caves, Aboriginal heritage places and the beautiful seaside village of Nelson, where the Glenelg River meets the sea. Along the way you’ll discover a diverse variety of plants and wildlife such as koalas, kangaroos, Blue and Southern Right Whales, and a huge variety of native birds, including the Australasian Gannet. The walk is maintained through a partnership between volunteers from Friends of the Great South West Walk and Parks Victoria. Many thanks to those volunteers as well as to the volunteers taking on responsibility for organising this FedWalks program. The Nomads has booked the 4-bedroom Roantree House, 17 Julia Street, Portland for Friday and Saturday nights at a total cost of $721.56. The accommodation cost will be divided equitably depending on how many people are staying in the house.  BOOKING: By 31 August, or ASAP to ensure you don't miss out! This event is only open to members of clubs affiliated with Bushwalking Victoria. Visitors should get a 1-month Temporary Membership prior to booking their tickets. Nomads tickets are free to book - the leader will collect accommodation fees directly from the attendees. The steps for booking are: Check out the BWV Walks Program to decide which walk(s) you would like to do. Click the TryBooking link to select the walks you wish to do on Saturday, and on Sunday and also select the Saturday Night Dinner option if you wish, then pay the FedWalks Registration Fee. Select Get Tickets on this Nomads events listing, so we know who is attending, to help with coordination. IMPORTANT: You must book, select the FedWalks walks you wish to do, and pay per walk ASAP. A ticket with The Nomads is not sufficient to grant you access to the weekend! NOTE: If travelling by public transport, the bus leaves Portland at 3:32pm on Sunday. If you don't get back from your walk in time to catch that, you'll almost certainly be able to get a ride to Warrnambool to catch the 5:32pm or 6:32pm train from there to Southern Cross. Nomads Wednesday Cycling - 3rd Wed each month
Oct

Nomads Wednesday Cycling - 3rd Wed each month
10:30 – 16:00
Do you enjoy cycling, and are you sometimes free on Wednesdays? You're welcome to join the Nomads Wednesday cyclists. ** See Archive - Wednesday Bike Rides for the upcoming Wednesday's cycling details (posted on the prior Monday night). ** GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Rides are of varying length and difficulty, mostly in metro Melbourne, but sometimes in Regional Victoria. The typical distance is between 30 and 50 km, though there are usually options to either extend or shorten the ride. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Time off on Wednesdays? Join a small group of Nomads and friends for a leisurely cycle on trails around metro Melbourne, and occasionally into Regional Victoria, usually on the third Wednesday of the month. Emphasis is on the social aspect, not on breaking world speed records! All rides are designed to either start in central Melbourne, or to start and finish close to train stations. The rides usually start at around 10:30am to avoid needing to travel with bikes on trains in peak hour. We often meet in, or near, a cafe so you can have a coffee prior to starting the ride if you wish. We generally have lunch in a cafe or pub along the way, though occasionally you will need to bring a picnic lunch if there are no suitable options available - in that case the ride description will clearly indicate the need to BYO lunch. The upcoming ride details are emailed to everybody on the Wednesday Cyclists Mailing List, usually on the prior Monday evening, by which time the weather forecast for Wednesday is fairly reliable. That way, a ride can be chosen to suit the forecast, for example to keep the wind behind us as much as possible, and to ensure there are bailout train station options if there’s a likelihood of rain. (Tip: the details are also added at the start of the Archive - Wednesday Bike Rides document).  If you have any additional enquiries or requests, email Chris Stewart on LeaderChrisS@nomads.org.au. If you're not sure whether your bike fitness level will match, contact Chris to plan your first foray. BOOKING: MAILING LIST: To join the mailing list so that you receive an email (usually on Monday evening) about the upcoming Wednesday ride, click on Get Tickets in this event. (Afterwards click the "+" to set the number of tickets to 1, click Checkout and follow the prompts to provide your contact details). You only need to do this once. If you decide in future that you don't wish to receive the weekly emails, just email LeaderChrisS@nomads.org.au to be taken off the mailing list. RIDING: When you plan to ride, please put your name in a free cell of the Wednesday Attendees spreadsheet on the day prior (be sure to click out of the cell afterwards, so that your name gets automatically saved). If a blank cell has a coloured box around it, somebody else is currently entering their name in that cell, so select the next cell instead. Your first name plus the first letter of your surname will suffice. If having difficulty, just reply to the email or email LeaderChrisS@nomads.org.au. COST: Free. Note that for most Nomads activities, visitors need to pay a small fee, but as an introductory offer that fee is waived for the monthly social nights and the regular Wednesday and Friday bike rides - a way for you to meet some club members and find out a little more about the club. After attending 5 or more rides, you will be asked to become a member though. FURTHER INFORMATION: Please see Cycling Tips for some things to consider prior to hopping on your bike. LEADER: Chris S. | Email LeaderChrisS@nomads.org.au if you have any questions. Members can access leader contact details under Members | Leader Contacts when logged in to the website. Men's Naturist Day Walk on a private farm near Lancefield with optional BBQ
Lancefield
10:45 – 22:30
Please Note: This event will be rescheduled to Sunday 25th October if there is poor weather forecast for Saturday 24th October. This is a day event only. Please respect the wishes of the host that no provisions for overnight stay at the property will be made before or after the event. Enjoy a naturist day out, walking in the beautiful and spectacular country near Lancefield courtesy of one of our Nomads members who has a farm in the area. Meet at the farm for morning tea, coffee and refreshments before the hike. We are planning an optional BYO BBQ dinner for those wishing to extend their stay on the farm into the evening.  GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Grade 2: Moderate 6-8 km circuit walk in quite hilly open country (graded according to the AWTGS: Australian Walking Tracks Grading System). Walking is on 4WD tracks, animal pads and through grassy paddocks. Please ensure that you are fit enough to hike 6-8 km up and down hills, and over sometimes rocky and slippery terrain. Please contact one of the event leaders if you have any concerns. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: We will meet at the farm property. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available when you arrive. After introductions and the briefing for the day, the group will carpool about 3 km on good gravel and bitumen roads to the start of the walk on a neighbouring farm property. Clothes can be shed once we park the cars at the designated location on the neighbouring farm. We will walk for a while to build our appetites and then stop for lunch at a good spot with a view. After lunch, we continue our exploration of the picturesque farm and the spectacular rock boulder formations before returning to our cars to drive back to the farmhouse. There you can have tea, coffee, nibbles and a drink while enjoying the lovely open fire if the weather is cool before departing for home or staying on for the optional dinner. For those wishing to stay on, the optional BBQ dinner has been planned around 6pm. BYO meat and drinks and anything else you wish to contribute. Salads, bread, sauce, tea, coffee etc will be provided. The BBQ dinner is planned to wind up around 10:30pm. BOOKING: By Thursday 22nd October. To register click on Get Tickets. Unsure if you've already booked? Click View my bookings. MEETING TIME | LOCATION: 10:45am at the farm, which is 14 km north of Lancefield. The exact address will be sent out on Friday 23rd October to all those who have registered by 11pm on Thursday 22nd October. Please do not arrive before 10:00am on the day, to give the host enough time to finish preparing for our arrival. MAP REFERENCE: Google maps goo.gl/maps/y5sn4nWk3PpjFjBVA (approx location).  DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: 82 km, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to drive. If you are returning home at dusk it is safer to drive at 60 km/h or less (between the farm and Lancefield and Kilmore-Lancefield Rd) and keep an eye out for wombats and kangaroos on the road when driving via that route. Please be alert to the possibility of wildlife on any of the country roads and drive accordingly. PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE WITH TRANSPORT: Public transport will only get you to Lancefield, 14 km short of the farm so is not a practical option. Anyone without transport to or from the property can seek the limited assistance of LeaderMichaelJ@nomads.org.au to co-ordinate a pick-up using the following procedure: 1   The person seeking a lift needs to email LeaderMichaelJ@nomads.org.au requesting assistance with transport. 2   The email is to contain the full name, mobile phone number and pick up suburb requested. 3   A person requesting a lift must agree that their full name, mobile phone number and pick up suburb be provided to all people registered to attend the event. 4   LeaderMichaelJ@nomads.org.au will email all participants as at the time of the request and provide full name, mobile phone number and pick up suburb for the person requesting a lift. 5   It is up to those who receive the email to decide if they will be prepared to provide a lift and make their own arrangements directly with the person who seeks a lift as per the provided details. 6   If no one contacts the person seeking a lift, then unless they are able to make other arrangements, they will be unable to attend the event. 7   There will be no other coordination of lifts provided by the event leaders. Please understand that we are extremely busy arranging other events and with life in general.  8   Anyone who has purchased a ticket but is unable to attend due to not having transport will be entitled to a refund of ticket cost. FOOD: Carry lunch, snacks and water for your day out in the country. If after the walk you'd like cheese, biscuits, nibbles and a drink other than tea or coffee, could you please bring a contribution. APPAREL | FOOTWEAR: Sunhat and sunscreen. Sunglasses could be useful. A warm top and beanie if there is a fresh breeze. If the day should unfortunately be a bit cool, feel free to put on clothes to keep yourself comfortable. Wear walking shoes or boots suitable for hiking on 4WD tracks, animal tracks and through the paddocks. As this is a naturist event, we ask that everyone brings a towel to sit when at the house. No bare bums on seats please. WEATHER REPORT: The nearest town to get an appropriate weather forecast is Pyalong, just north of the Great Dividing Range. The bed cost will depend on the number of attendees - the more attending, the cheaper the cost for everybody.  BED COST: STANDARD Single Bed: $205 | PREMIUM Single Bed: $245 | STANDARD QUEEN bed: $410 | PREMIUM QUEEN bed: $490. In rooms with single beds, two beds can be pushed together to form a double bed.  The room quality varies somewhat. Rooms will be allocated on a best-available basis in the order that bookings are received (for the requested room type). Above Photo: Communal area in Cosela Lodge. The Lodge has room duties that need to be completed every day so the lodge is kept clean and tidy. So be prepared to clean bathrooms, vacuum, sweep and mop floors. Those that choose an ensuite room only need to clean their own bathroom before leaving.   BOOKING: To join this weekend you need to book ASAP by clicking Get Tickets. Places will be allocated in the order of registration. Cancellations within a month of the event will only receive a refund if somebody else is able to take your place. If you find the event is fully booked, please take out a free WAITING LIST ticket and you will be contacted (in the order of ticketing) if a bed becomes available. This event is not open to Visitors (but Visitors can take out a 1-month membership, cost $8, prior to booking).  Unsure if you've already booked? Dietary Needs. You will be asked to select from the available options to assist with planning, so that attendees can be grouped into appropriate food teams. How are you travelling to the event? & My Suburb: Please select the appropriate option so that we can maximise car pooling. FOOD & MEALS: There are very limited options for purchasing food in the Falls Creek Village in summer, so it is essential for us to bring all food and drink needs with us. Due to the limited kitchen space, the attendees will be divided into four teams, with each team providing a three-course meal on one of the four evenings. The ingredients for the evening meals will be organised collectively, but bring your own breakfasts, lunches, drinks and snacks for all days. During the walks it is essential you carry your own lunch, snacks and at least 1 litre of water. The Dandenong's Pixie Waltz

The Dandenong's Pixie Waltz
Upper Ferntree Gully Station Car Park
08:06 – 17:00
SORRY WALK IS FULL NOW.  Explore the enchanting Dandenongs on a 16.5 km hike starting from Upper Ferntree Gully Railway Station and ending at Mt Dandenong Hotel, Olinda. This event is ideal training for the December overnight hike in Victorian Alps. It is not technically difficult, but we need to keep up 3-4 Km/hr to complete it. GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Grade 4: Medium to Hard 16.5 km point-to-point walk (graded according to the AWTGS: Australian Walking Tracks Grading System), with public transport access at each end. There is quite a bit of climbing, and descending, on this walk, though there are no prolonged climbs. The total vertical climb is 967 m, and total descent is 588 m. The walk is expected to take at least 6 hours. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Is there a more enchanted forest than the Dandenongs? Tall mountain ash stretch to the sky whilst Gondwana ferns decorate the mossy gullies. With such Tolkien-like scenery, the bushwalker soon becomes convinced that pixies must surely live among the ferns. This hike follows little used trails from Upper Ferntree Gully Railway Station to Mt Dandenong Hotel. Mainly on track, with the occasional wombat trail, the route has a total elevation gain of almost a kilometre. Thankfully, not all this elevation comes at once. Rather there's a little uphill, then a little downhill, and so it goes until you reach your destination. On the way there are several sights including One Tree Hill and the Doongalla Picnic Ground, set in an English garden next to an historic homestead. It's probably the most romantic picnic ground you can find. There's also a number of hillbillies who live on the route and if you're lucky to get one talking, you will be spun a yarn about the history of the area. From the end of the walk, a bus will take you back to the start (or to Croydon Station if you prefer) following a charming route that is worth the price of the Myki pass alone. On weekends buses leave hourly. First though, a refreshing beverage at the Mt Dandenong Hotel is strongly recommended.  BOOKING: By Friday 02 October. To register click on Get Tickets. Unsure if you've already booked? Click View my bookings. FURTHER INFORMATION: TrailHiking.com: The Dandenong's Pixie Waltz. MEETING TIME | LOCATION: 9:20am at Railway Ave, at the top of the exit ramp (northern) exit of the Upper Ferntree Gully Railway Station (though an earlier start is being considered).  MAP REFERENCE: Google map (starting point): maps.app.goo.gl/H6PaBXCHQGG7dZMD7.  Route Map: TrailHiking.com Dandenongs Pixie Waltz DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: 40 km, 1 hour 10 mins by train from Flinders Street Station.  PUBLIC TRANSPORT:  GETTING THERE: Take the Lilydale line train that departs from Flinders Street at 8:06am and change at Ringwood (on the other side of the platform) to the Belgrave line train, arriving in Upper Ferntree Gully at 9:15am. RETURNING: From the Mt Dandenong Hotel take a #688 bus from Ridge Rd/Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd (Olinda) to either Croydon or Belgrave, then catch a train back to the CBD. The bus stop for Upper Ferntree Gully is in front of the Mt Dandenong Hotel, and for Croydon is in front of Kelly's. Potential PT options: Olinda 3:55pm-5:27pm Flinders Street Station via Upper Ferntree Gully and Belgrave line Olinda 4:47pm-6:17pm Flinders Street Station via Croydon and Lilydale line Olinda 4:59pm-6:27pm Flinders Street Station via Upper Ferntree Gully and Belgrave line Olinda 5:45pm-7:17pm Flinders Street Station via Croydon and Lilydale line Olinda 5:54pm-7:36pm Flinders Street Station via Upper Ferntree Gully FOOD: Carry lunch, snacks and two litres of water. We do it every second Sunday morning - more or less. We begin at Kooyong Tennis Stadium at 7.25am and take Gardiners Creek Trail into the city. You are free to join at several points along the way. Kooyong (7.25am); Birrarung Marr Walk (7.50am); Port Melbourne Beach (8.40am). We ride the same route each time. For the Beach Road section, riders choose whichever option (bike path or road) they are most comfortable with. At Hampton we stop for coffee - right next to Hampton station. We don't stop much on the ride apart from road crossings at lights and a toilet stop in Westgate Park. Oh Yeah :) We ride at a steady pace. We surge a bit down Lorimer Street. We take it carefully on Beach Road or bike paths where there are other forms of traffic (runners/ walkers/cyclists/cars etc). Coffee in Hampton is for about 30 mins, then we move on. Post-coffee choices are to ride onto Mordy, head home on your bike or catch the train. It's a morning ride and we aim to be back home by 11.00 - 11.30am. The rest of the day is yours and you're feeling great, having done a beautiful Sunday morning Melbourne ride.  BOOKING: We communicate via SMS if required, such as - "it's raining we're not going" or "good weather - we're on!". This generally happens on the morning of the ride. Early. Around 6.30am. Check your messages before you leave home. If you are keen to join this ride email Bryan and we can exchange numbers for communication purposes. Proposed ride dates at this stage are 12 & 26 July; 23 & 30 August; 13 September. Mixed Naturist 10 Pin Bowling, Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne

Mixed Naturist 10 Pin Bowling, Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne
Box Hill
19:30 – 22:00
NO FURTHER TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE. Join us for a fun evening of nude 10 pin bowling at a location in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. We have hired the entire venue. The event is open to Nomads members and visitors. Ticket holders will receive address details of the venue by Wednesday 30th September 2026. Location given is approximate. We are only able to share the venue details, including the suburb, with confirmed ticket holders. Participants are not permitted to share the venue name or location with anyone. Please leave that to the organisers. SUPPER AT BOWLING VENUE: We are planning a bring-and-share supper in the room next to the bowling alley. This has been popular during previous similar events.  FOOD: Everyone is requested to bring a plate of food to share for supper. If you bring food that needs to be heated, please be aware that we only have access to a pie warmer. Please do not bring food on non-reusable plastic plates as these are not allowed at this type of event. It would be appreciated if everyone could bring your own cold drinks. Free tea and coffee will be provided. You may bring your own non-alcoholic drinks to the venue to sip on between bowls in the carpeted area behind the bowling lanes. Alcoholic drinks for personal consumption are only permitted in the large supper room adjoining the bowling area. No drinks of any type are to be taken into the bowling lane area. Also, for safety, no glass is permitted in the area of the venue where we are bowling. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: We will meet out the front of the venue at 7.30pm if the weather is fine, or inside the foyer if it is raining. Please do not block the entrance, as other patrons may be leaving the building. We would ask that everyone is respectful of the venue staff, who are assisting us to make this event happen. Facemasks are not required to be worn but you are free to wear mask if you would prefer or need to. Hand sanitiser will be provided. Once introductions are completed, we will proceed to the bowling area. When advised by the Leader, everyone may then undress. All clothes can be left at the rear of the bowling alley. You may wish to bring a small bag for your clothes. There should be no problem with security, but we recommend that you do not bring valuables into the venue, as we are unable to take responsibility for any losses. The time allocated for bowling, presentation of prizes and supper is 8pm until 10pm. Bowling shoes will be provided for all. You will each be able to select a suitable bowling ball to use during the evening, and then can join in with others at any one of the lanes. Do not worry if you are on your own, we will ensure that everyone finds a friendly group to bowl with. You do not need to be experienced in 10 pin bowling. This is all about having fun with like minded people. Depending on the number of bowlers at each lane, you can typically expect to complete up to two games. There will be a small competition with prizes which will be awarded based on the individual scores of the first game. Once everyone has finished the first game, we will stop for presentation of prizes, and to share supper together. ACTIVITIES AFTER THE PRESENTATIONS: Once presentations have been made, you are free to continue with supper and talking to people, you may return to bowling, or for a fee of $8.50 payable at the front desk, you can have a swim in one of the indoor heated swimming pools on site. It would be appreciated if everyone could promptly depart the venue at 10pm. We would welcome the assistance of a few people to help the organisers with packing up after the night. SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS: 10 pin bowling is a relatively safe activity. However, we have had a number of injuries during past events. A safety briefing will be provided prior to the event. No one is to handle bowling balls enless wearing footwear with a covered in toe (no bare feet). A bowling safety line, also known as a foul line, separates the safe walk up approach from the extremely slippery, oil treated bowling lane. No one is to step onto or past the foul line. Select a bowling ball which is not too heavy and which has holes large enough to easily release the ball. This is to prevent injuries to the fingers or wrist. Never reach into the ball return when a ball is approaching.  PHOTOGRAPHY: In order to maintain everyone's privacy, please note that no photographs will be permitted except as advised by the Leader on the night. Phones are not to be used during the evening, and we thank you for assisting us with this. Please see the Leader, Michael, if you have any concerns. BOOKING: By 4pm on Wednesday 30th September 2026. To register, click on Get Tickets. Tickets will cost $38 for Nomads members and $43 for everyone else. We ask you to consider booking prior to 1pm on Wednesday 9th September, as if we do not have enough people booked by that time to cover the hire cost of the venue, then we may need to cancel the event and refund everyone who had purchased a ticket. NO REFUNDS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR TICKETS PURCHASED AFTER 1PM ON WEDNESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026, as per the advice listed with the ticket conditions. The only exception will be if the event is cancelled by the Event Leader.  Tickets may sell out for this event, so book early. The last time that we ran this event, it was a sell out. Tickets will be allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. No tickets will be available for purchase at the venue. Ticket prices for this event are set at a rate required to cover the necessary cost of hire of the entire venue. Click View my bookings. MEETING TIME | LOCATION: 7.30pm at the entrance to the venue, ticket holders will receive address details by Wednesday 30th September 2026. DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: 20-25 km, approximately 30 minutes to drive, or 1 hour 20 minutes by public transport and walking. PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The venue is accessible by public transport. Approx 50min train journey from Flinders Street railway station, followed by a 30min walk. More precise public transport details will be provided to ticket holders by Wednesday 30th September 2026. It's recommended to wear appropriate flat shoes with enough grip. No dogs allowed. BOOKING: By Friday 18th September. To register, click on Get Tickets. Unsure if you've already booked?
