Multi-night backpack in the Victorian Alps

A challenging 3 night/4 day backpack in the Victorian Alps. Immerse yourself in the serenity and the beauty of the bush, while getting some exercise.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Grade 4: Hard, 48 km point-to-point walk, along hiking trails (graded according to the AWTGS: Australian Walking Tracks Grading System). I have not graded this 5 as we are remaining on established pads. We will walk up to 15 km each day, and ascend a total of about 2400m over 4 days. The track is defined but is rough and steep in sections.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: This challenging overnight backpacking trek in the Victorian Alps is likely to incorporate Mt Hotham, the Razorback, Mt Feathertop, Diamantina Spur, Cobungra River, Mt Jim, Bogong High Plains and Dibbins hut. The trek itinerary will be fine tuned closer to the date depending on weather, the number of attendees, and inclination of the group.

We will stay at the Federation Hut on a Thursday night as it can be very busy over weekends.

Note that we might shift the dates if we don't get a good weather window. We will get a good indication a couple of days before we depart. Any change would be consultative between all participants.

MEETING TIME | LOCATION: We will likley drive part of the way up after work on Wednesday the 3rd and stay somewhere overnight. This will give us a full day on the 4th.  We will car share. 

DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: 370 km, approximately 5 hours drive.

FOOD | APPAREL | FOOTWEAR: All food for the event will need to be carried in our packs. A suggested packing list, including food requirements, will be sent to those who register. We will share our night meals to make cooking easier.  Weather conditions can vary significantly and rapidly in alpine regions, so we need to be prepared for all possibile eventualities, including snow!!

Dont worry if you dont have all the gear as I have a lot of spare, and many items are shared.
